sky chronicles | 2021

digital media (IPad drawings)

These are digital drawings of the sky from my trip to the Maldives in the summer of 2021. Over the course of 7 days, I was observing how it would change its appearance and present itself differently every day. This series was initially inspired by David Hockney and 'The Arrival of Spring', 2020.

However, instead of celebrating the change of season, I am aiming to reflect on the dynamics of something constant or fixed. The sky technically has one definition but appears to us in various guises every time we look up. My abstract mind connects that to the dynamics of human character and multifaceted self. The core remains the same, but every day we discover, recognise and get to know new layers and new parts of ourselves. I think it is beautiful that everything is so interrelated, and nature itself is whispering to us that change is constant and inevitable.

This is definitely something that should be celebrated along with the change of season — the whole journey of discovering and getting to know yourself and your inner world, while also navigating the external reality.
